Polar Plunge in Shallow Lake to benefit Special Olympians

Some fun on the ice will be followed up by an icy dip at an upcoming event in support of Special Olympics Ontario.

The Grey Bruce OPP is partnering with the Inter Township Fire Department and the Township of Georgian Bluffs to present their 2026 Polar Plunge at the Shallow Lake and District Community Centre on March 7.

This year’s fun will kick off at 1 p.m. with a charity hockey game between the Grey Bruce OPP and Inter Township Fire Department. Registration for the plunge opens at 1 p.m., with the plunge taking place at 2 p.m. It is the second year in a row the event has been held at Shallow Lake.

“The Polar Plunge is an incredible opportunity for our community to come together, have fun, and support Special Olympics athletes across the province,” Grey Bruce OPP Const. Kody Lyons said in a news release. “We’re proud to partner with the Inter Township Fire Department and the Township of Georgian Bluffs to bring this event back for 2026, and we hope to see a great turnout.”

Participants of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to register, dress up and take part in the plunge. Community members, businesses, service clubs and teamss are encouraged to register and challenge each other. Facilities are available onsite, including change rooms, bathrooms and the bleachers.

The Polar Plunge is a signature fundraising event for Special Olympics Ontario, providing year-round sports programs, competitions and opportunities for athletes with intellectual disabilities. Funds raised directly support the program, the release said.
