Firefighters say an Ottawa house fire was sparked by an unusual culprit – a dog chewing on a heated ski glove.
The Ottawa fire department says the family’s dog grabbed a glove equipped with a lithium-ion battery and chewed it on a couch until the battery ignited on Thursday.
The incident was caught on the homeowner’s indoor surveillance camera, with footage showing the dog jumping off the couch when smoke appeared from the glove.
A blanket on the couch then caught fire, which led to heavy smoke and flames coming from the bay window of the home in Orleans.
Officials say firefighters quickly put out the blaze and safely rescued the dog.
No one else was inside at the time.
The fire department says the incident is a reminder of the risks lithium-ion batteries pose, and residents should safely store items that contain them.
