A minor fire prompted the evacuation of St. John Fisher Catholic School in Forest on Friday afternoon.
At approximately 1:25 p.m. on January 9, a fire occurred in the food preparation area of the school. The building was immediately evacuated, and all students and staff were safely relocated to a designated evacuation area.
The Lambton Shores Fire Department responded and quickly extinguished the fire before conducting a full inspection of the building, including checks of smoke and air quality. Students remained in cleared areas of the school under close staff supervision and were dismissed at their regularly scheduled time.
The cause of the fire and the extent of any damage remain under investigation. School board personnel remained on site to monitor for any further issues.
School officials thanked the Lambton Shores Fire Department and the Ontario Provincial Police for their swift response, noting student and staff safety remains the top priority.
