OPP officials allege: An individual has been charged following a two-vehicle collision involving a school bus and a minivan in St. Clair Township.

Just before 7 a.m. on Dec. 12, members of the Lambton County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, Lambton County EMS and the St. Clair Township Fire Department responded to a report of a collision at the intersection of Plank Road and Lasalle Line.

Police say the collision resulted in both vehicles becoming engulfed in flames. There were students on board the school bus at the time, however the drivers and students were able to safely exit the vehicles before the fire.

The driver of the minivan was transported to hospital by EMS with non-life-threatening injuries. One student was assessed at the scene for minor injuries, and no other injuries were reported.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the school bus, a 68-year-old from Petrolia, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with fail to yield to traffic. The accused is scheduled to appear in Ontario Provincial Offences Court in Sarnia at a later date.
