4 people displaced after improperly discarded cigarette sparks house fire

Damage is estimated at $50,000 after an improperly discarded cigarette sparked a house fire in the city’s east end Saturday night.

According to the London Fire Department, crews responded to a structure fire in the 100-block of Adelaide Street on Saturday night.

Crews quickly located the fire in a second-floor bedroom, and were able to extinguish it before it extended into the attic space.

Ventilation operations have been completed, and all smoke has been cleared from the building.

Four occupants have been displaced.

Damage is currently estimated at approximately $50,000.

“Please remember when using smoking materials, always ensure cigarettes and other smoking materials are fully extinguished before disposing of them,” London fire said. “Never smoking in bed or when feeling drowsy and use proper ashtrays to prevent accidental fires”.
