A reported gas leak forced the evacuation of K.P. Manson Public School on Monday morning, with students and staff redirected to a nearby facility.
The fire department arrived at the school on Graham Road just after 7 a.m. to investigate the leak.
As a precaution, students were sent to the Severn Bridge Women’s Institute at 1035 Southwood Road.
The school board said parents and guardians were notified through SchoolMessenger shortly after the situation unfolded.
Due to the amount of time needed to investigate and complete the repair, the school remained closed for the day. Fire services said a broken pipe on the roof caused the initial leak.
The school board confirmed that only the custodian was on the property at the time of the incident, and any staff who began to arrive were directed to the evacuation site.
The Trillium Lakelands District School Board advised families with urgent questions, including safe arrival matters, to contact the TLDSB Education Centre by phone at 705-324-6776 or by email at info@tldsb.on.ca.
The board said repair work on the gas leak has been completed and the school will reopen on Tuesday.
Fire officials told CTV News no injuries were reported.
