Early morning fire destroys house in Bath

A house on Main Street was destroyed by an early morning fire Tuesday.

The home’s occupants were able to get out of the house and no injuries were reported.

Loyalist firefighters were dispatched to 383 Loyalist Parkway shortly before 1:15 a.m.

By the time firefighters arrived on scene, the fire had already spread, said Fire Chief Kent Readman.

“We arrived to find a heavily involved house on fire,” Readman said. “All the occupants had exited the building and we’ve been basically battling the fire ever since. We have it under control now and we’re just investigating.”

About 35 firefighters from three township fire stations battled the fire.

In addition to the fire, Readman said the firefighters had to work against the cold. Temperatures dropped to close to -20C with the windchill making it feel closer to -25C.

“It’s always an impact,” Readman said.

“It makes water flow a little more challenging, and we did bring extra resources to the call to rotate our staff through, so they go back to the station, warm up on breaks, and then just kept rotating them through.”
