Sixteen sheep have been killed and thousands of dollars in damages were incurred after an early morning barn fire in Flamborough.
Hamilton firefighters responded to reports of a barn fire shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday at 2391 Concession 6 West.
Upon arrival, crews say they found the barn fully engulfed. Due to extreme fire conditions, firefighters conducted defensive operations from the exterior of the structure.
Given the rural location, water was shuttled to the scene to support firefighting efforts.
During the incident, the barn’s roof collapsed, requiring firefighters to remain on scene for an extended period to extinguish hotspots beneath collapsed materials and ensure the fire was fully controlled.
There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident.
Sadly, 16 sheep were reported to have been inside the barn at the time.
The cause of the fire is believed to be associated with a wood-burning stove that extended into the structure.
Estimated property damage is believed to exceed $400,000.
