Fire safety inspections are now underway in Cambridge highrise buildings, with crews checking systems and sharing emergency response tips.
The site visits are a part of the Highrise Incident Prevention Program (HIPP), introduced by the Cambridge Fire Department (CFD), and will continue through March 31.
“It’s important residents living in highrise buildings know what to do to keep themselves and their loved ones safe,” says Deputy Fire Chief Brad Churchill. “The first line of defence in a fire is public education, and programs like HIPP help us strengthen that foundation.”
CFD crews will ensure that buildings meet safety standards, and that residents understand how to respond in an emergency.
As highrises can present unique challenges during emergencies, CFD said, HIPP aims to “reduce risks, improve response times and strengthen partnerships with property owners and residents.”
