City firefighters respond to bedroom fire

Kenora Miner & News

The City of Kenora’s Fire and Emergency Services have saved the day yet again.

On Tuesday morning, local municipal firefighters responded to a bedroom fire in a multi-residential unit “with smoke and flames visible.”

Based on the severity of the fire, additional off-duty and paid-per-call firefighters were called in to help battle the blaze.

“Smoke was showing on on arrival, and OPP officers were already assisting with evacuating other tenants. Staff had used fire extinguishers to slow the fire and confirmed everyone was out of the affected unit,” Kenora Fire wrote on Facebook following the incident.

“Firefighters entered with a hoseline to quickly knock down the fire and complete a search while additional members supported evacuation of the remaining units. The fire was contained to the bedroom and no injuries were reported.”

All in all, and thanks to the efforts of all first responders involved, the fire was “brought under control efficiently.”

With the incident in mind, the force is now reminding members of the public to check that their smoke alarms are working and to continue practising regular fire safety drills.
