Chatham-Kent has officially launched Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1), which is a major upgrade to Canada's emergency communication system that improves how residents connect with emergency services when every second counts.
NG9-1-1 ensures that Chatham-Kent's first responders have access to the most modern and reliable network available.
NG9-1-1 allows emergency responders to receive real-time digital information from callers, including improved location accuracy, and eventually text messaging, images, and video, helping police, paramedics, and firefighters understand the situation faster and respond with the right resources.
"Keeping our community safe is at the core of everything we do," said Chatham-Kent Police Chief Kirk Earley. "NG9-1-1 will make sure that when someone calls for help, our first responders receive the most accurate and up-to-date information possible so we can get there faster. This technology is built around the needs of the people we serve."
NG9-1-1 brings important improvements for the people of Chatham-Kent:

- Better coordination between Police, Fire, and EMS

The Ontario government has provided close to $4M since 2022 to support Chatham-Kent's transition to NG9-1-1.

"Every second matters," said Acting General Manager of EMS Peter Morassutti. "Better situational awareness means paramedics can begin life-saving decision-making from the moment we are dispatched."
Assistant Fire Chief Adam Walters highlighted the impact on fire response: "NG9-1-1 will transform how we respond to emergencies. By providing faster, more detailed information, it allows our crews to prepare and act with precision to incidents where every second counts."
Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff said this investment reinforces the municipality's commitment to public safety: "This upgrade is about giving our residents the confidence that when they need help, we have the best technology and tools to protect them. NG9-1-1 will save lives in Chatham-Kent, and that's what matters most. I would like to thank to Province of Ontario for their funding support in our transition to NG9-1-1."
