Ottawa Fire Services says one person was rescued from an apartment building fire in Carlington early Friday morning.

A monitoring agency notified firefighters that alarms were sounding in the building on Mayview Avenue at 3:52 a.m. Fire crews were on scene four minutes later.

Residents said there was a fire on the second floor.

Firefighters found the unit and forced their way inside, where they found a man in the bedroom at 4:06 a.m.

Public information officer Nick DeFazio says the rescued resident was treated with oxygen for smoke inhalation, but he did not go to the hospital.

The fire was declared under control at 4:37 a.m. and contained to a single apartment.

People who had evacuated were kept warm in an OC Transpo bus while firefighters dealt with the fire and later ventilated the building to ensure the air was safe.
