Three homes in Cambridge have been damaged by a fire.
The Cambridge Fire Department was called to 36 Aurora Common at 8:48 p.m. Monday night. Multiple units, including seven apparatus responded to the blaze.
The fire spread to the neighbouring units of either side and crews battled to prevent the flames from spreading further.
The estimated cost of the damage comes in at $1.5 million, although Cambridge Fire Department officials believe that number could still change as the investigation continues.
“From our balcony we could see the smoke coming right over the balcony, right past the window,” Victoria Furtado, a woman who lives in the complex, told CTV News on Tuesday. “I ran downstairs and I opened the blinds and the curtains, and I came outside and all we saw was massive black smoke coming from the house behind me. We could see flame coming from the roof of the house on the left, not from the middle. So we weren’t really sure where the fire was.”
A fire investigator determined an electrical issue sparked the blaze.
“We are grateful for the quick actions of responding crews in containing the fire and limiting further impact. This incident serves as an important reminder of the need for electrical safety in the home and ensuring electrical systems are properly maintained,” an email sent to CTV News by Ali Wakefield, captain of fire prevention with the Cambridge Fire Department, said.
