Job Description
(1 Full-time position available, an average of 42 hours per week)
The Fire Department operates a bilingual fire emergency call dispatching center serving Hawkesbury as well as several other fire departments. The Communications Team Lead mainly oversees the Communications Officers, conducts coaching and training, schedules work, performs quality control and quality assurance, interacts with Hawkesbury Fire Officers as well as client fire departments, interacts with software and hardware providers and service technicians, and may fill-in as needed for a Communications Officer, among other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief.
Under the supervision of the Fire Chief, the incumbent performs as the point person for the Hawkesbury Fire Dispatch Centre, including marketing and attending meetings and conferences to attract and retain dispatch clients. The incumbent will be required to carry an employer supplied cell phone and answer calls after hours, if needed. The working environment is bilingual, however most inter-office communication is in French.
Requirements
- High school diploma (minimum)
- Must have extensive and recent fire dispatch experience in a unionized environment.
- Fluently bilingual (French and English), both oral and writing.
- Knowledge and experience with computers and technology (e.g. Microsoft Office)
- Ability to type 40 wpm (minimum)
- Initiative, discretion, interpersonal skills and autonomy
- Willing and able to work rotating shifts, including days and nights, and on statutory holidays, in accordance with the collective agreement.
- Ability to work in emergency and stressful situations
- NFPA 1225 Public Safety Telecommunicator Levels I and II
- APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator
- APCO Fire Service Communications
- APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator Instructor (or be willing and able to attain)
- APCO Communications Training Officer (or be willing and able to attain)
- APCO Communications Center Supervisor (or be willing and able to attain)
- APCO NG9-1-1 (or be willing and able to attain)
- Must have a valid ‘G’ or higher driver’s license and an acceptable driving record (or equivalent)
- Must have and be able to maintain certification in Standard First Aid and Level C CPR (or be willing and able to attain)
- Relevant experience (e.g. fire fighting, dispatch, dispatch supervisor) is an asset
- Relevant training (e.g. dispatch training, supervisor training) is an asset
- Any relevant training and experience is an asset
Applicant Testing
- Applicants will undergo testing using CritiCall Dispatcher Testing
- Applicants will undergo language testing to assess fluency in French and English
This full-time position has a salary of $40.48 hourly in accordance with the Collective Agreement presently in effect (currently under negotiation).
