Firefighters say occupants of a London apartment complex are likely alive thanks to working smoke alarms.
Just after 2 a.m., multiple units were dispatched to 74 Emery St. West in London, Ont. after a 911 caller reported smoke in the basement.
Upon arrival, London Fire said there was heavy smoke in the hallway and in the affected unit.
They determined it was due to a stovetop hazard.
In a post on social media, London Fire stated working smoke alarms potentially saved the life of the occupants.
“This incident serves as a strong reminder that smoke alarms save lives. Please ensure you have a working smoke alarm in your home,” they wrote on X.
