The Municipality of East Ferris is seeking to hire a By-Law Enforcement/Fire Prevention Officer.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills and must have the physical conditioning and ability to perform the tasks associated with the duties of the position.

This position serves a dual role. As By-Law Enforcement Officer, the successful candidate is responsible for the enforcement of all Municipal by-laws, program initiatives, investigations, and handling violations. The Fire Prevention Officer is responsible for the safe and effective coordination, planning and support of all fire prevention programming, delivery of inspections and public fire and life safety education. The Fire Prevention Officer will also conduct investigations on all types of new and existing buildings to ensure conformity with government legislation and Municipal by-laws. 

The By-Law Enforcement/Fire Prevention Officer will work in conjunction with the Community Services Department as well as East Ferris Fire & Emergency Services and will be reporting to the Director of Community Services for by-law enforcement related duties and to the Fire Chief for fire prevention related duties. 

The successful candidate will be responsible to:

  • Enforce/administer all municipal by-laws, including but not limited to, property standards, clean yards, short-term rentals, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with members of the public to educate, mediate, and negotiate with residents in regard to violations.
  • Attend weekly Fire Department evening training sessions.
  • Investigate fires to determine origin and cause.
  • Establish goals and objectives for fire and life safety inspections and public education programs.
  • Issue orders and lay charges when required.

Position: Full-Time, Permanent

Range of Pay: $62,687 - $78,584
