The Office of the Fire Marshal has completed an investigation into a fatal apartment building fire on Friday.

Speaking to Today’s Northumberland, Cramahe Township Fire Chief Matt Halmasy said the Office of the Fire Marshal had finished their investigation and had cleared the scene just before 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Firefighters originally responded to the fire just after 4 a.m. Friday.

The cause of the fire was undetermined due to the extensive damage to the building.

The remainder of the structure has been demolished because of safety concerns.

The building, at 8 King Street West in Colborne, was a two-storey apartment building which had contained 20 units.

With the site cleared by emergency services and the fire marshal, the property was turned over to the County of Northumberland.
