Workshop 1 - Human Resources 101

Workshop Description: New to Labour Relations or need a refresher? Confused by all the acronyms such as FPPA, LRA, ESA, WSIA? This session is for you! We'll go back to basics and demystify the essentials of labour and employment law. In addition to covering the Acts you need to know about, we'll review important human rights issues, common law requirements, collective agreement interpretation and the principles of interest arbitration.
Workshop 2 - Mock Arbitration: Practice Before the Stakes are Real

Workshop Description: Understand how disputes unfold, without the risks and costs of a real case. In this workshop, you will gain first-hand experience on how to prepare for an investigation, grievance meeting and arbitration. The workshop will include a mock arbitration hearing with Arbitrator Tim Liznick. Get an opportunity to build your confidence, sharpen your skills and learn how to make better decisions that will stand up to scrutiny in real workplace disputes.
Workshop 3 - Bargaining in Action

Workshop Description: Effective bargaining in the fire services requires more than just knowledge of the law - it demands strategy, preparation, and the ability to respond confidently at the table. This highly interactive workshop will provide a solid foundation in the key stages of collective bargaining, from identifying and prioritizing issues to drafting proposals and responding effectively in negotiations. This year, participants will also get to try their hand at bargaining! After the morning of theory and practical tools, we'll break off into groups where you'll be able to practice your skills through real-life bargaining simulations.
