He served for 41 years with the Belle River Fire Service, and was the last Chief to march off the department before amalgamation. He generously donated his time for three decades to the Goodfellows and as a Lions Club member for 45 years. He was always available to help when someone needed him. Edward was a life-long parishioner of St. Simon and St. Jude Parish, serving as an altar boy in his youth and for funerals in later years. He played baseball and hockey, and was an avid Detroit Tiger and Red Wing fan, coaching them from the sofa, and teaching his great grandchildren about sports and how to bunt properly.

Edwards’s achievements, honours and community involvement activities were countless. He and Lucille fostered more than two dozen children over the years. He devoted his life to family, service and others. His special joy was his 1932 Chevy Coupe, which he painstakingly restored and drove. The grandkids always especially liked the rumble seat.
