Training Officer
Job Description
Reporting directly to the Deputy Fire Chief, the Training Officer is responsible for the development, delivery, organization, and evaluation of all departmental training programs. This position is required evaluate the requirements of the department and develop programs to support continuous improvement, professional standards and legislative requirements.
The Training Officer is required to coordinate directly with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver fire service training to meet legislated requirements and industry best practices. This position is required to provide direction, guidance, recommendations, and instruction to staff related to training programs, services, or initiatives.
The Training Officer will perform administrative duties and record keeping in compliance with department policy procedures, and legislative requirements. This position shall be required to maintain professional competency and remain current with new legislation and training programs. This position ensures operational guidelines, health and safety standards, and policies and procedures are incorporated and maintained while developing and delivering all training programs.
The Training Officer must have a flexible schedule to accommodate work in the evenings and on weekends.
Selection Criteria:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma, or equivalent
- NFPA 1041, Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Level I
- NFPA 1021, Fire Officer Level I
- Comprehensive knowledge, skills, and abilities of firefighting operations including terminology, principles and practices, apparatus, equipment, and NFPA standards
- Demonstrated ability in the development, implementation, and delivery of fire service training
- Previous experience as a Training Officer in a Municipal Fire Service
- Experience supervising and instructing Firefighters and Officers
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Learning Management Systems to create and deliver training materials
- Class “DZ” driver’s license with a satisfactory drivers abstract
- Standard First Aid, CPR Level C, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certification
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Post Secondary Education in a related field or discipline
- Joint Health & Safety (JHSC) Part 1, Part 2 certification
- Advanced medical training or instructor certification
- NFPA 1041, Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Level II
- NFPA 1021, Fire Officer Level II,III, IV
- Blue Card certified or demonstrated knowledge and experience in incident command
- Mental Health and Wellness instructor
- Technical rescue experience or instructor
- NFPA 1521, Fire Department Safety Officer
Compensation is based on a 40-hour workweek in accordance with the Collective Agreement. Additionally, this position will hold membership with the East Gwillimbury Professional Firefighters Association Local 4985, IAFF.
Annual Salary: $125,853.43 (Interim rate)
