Ajax, ON – The Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC) announced today the winner of the “Name Will Fightfire’s Friend Contest”.  Will Fightfire’s new friends’ name is Fiona Firesafety.  Fiona Firesafety’s name was created by 10-year old Lauren in Plattsville, Ontario, who was selected out of the hundreds of entries received from children and youth all across Ontario.

For having her name chosen, Lauren won a fire safety gift pack, $500 cash, and a special prize from the Township of Blandford-Blenheim Fire Department.

The Township of Blandford-Blenheim Fire Department is extremely proud of Lauren being selected as the winner in naming Will Fightfire’s new friend Fiona Firesafety”, said Fire Chief Rick Richardson. “Our Township Fire Prevention Committee and firefighters have worked very hard this past year in attending our public schools and sharing their fire prevention information and activities with all the students. Being selected as the winner from across Ontario makes everyone in our small community very proud of our youth and their knowledge and understanding of fire safety.

When we contacted Lauren’s family, they were thrilled to hear the news.

“We, like Lauren, were both shocked and surprised to learn she won the contest”, stated Lauren’s dad Darren. “Both her mother and I are proud of how she applied her creative abilities towards such an important topic!
