Grand Valley and District Needs a New Fire Chief

Our long serving Fire Chief is preparing to retire.  And with that, the Town of Grand Valley and District is looking for an ambitious and self-motivated individual to lead our Fire Department.

As the leader of the very well-maintained Fire Department, you will contribute to the positive environment in the Department and contribute to the municipalities under your care.  The Fire Chief is responsible for ensuring the efficient, effective, and economical operation of the Fire Department which includes a Fire Hall, a training facility and 35 Volunteer fire fighters. The role includes a flexible work environment helping employees balance the demands of work with their personal and family obligations. The Chief will provide leadership, technical expertise, overall management and operations of the Department. This will include fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency response, training, Fire Code enforcement and public education. This role is estimated to be 30 hours a week and we provide a very competitive compensation package with both fixed and variable component, and benefits.

The preferred candidate holds:
  • Post Secondary education in fire service administration, or a related program.
  • CEMC, Community Emergency Management Coordinator designation.
  • Ontario Fire College, Training Officer Certification would be an asset.
  • Experience in a senior officer capacity, including (10) years in a Fire Department and Three (3) years supervisory experience in a Fire environment.
  • Fire Prevention Officer Certification, or a willingness to get it.
  • Class DZ Driver’s License in good standing.
  • Availability to attend evening and/or weekend meetings or other events.
  • Be able to respond to major emergencies as required and be available for on-call duty.
  • Current Clear vulnerable sector check.
