The Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Fire and Emergency Services department is currently recruiting for the following:

Fire Chief & Community Emergency Management Coordinator

Salary Range $118,755 - $144,271
The Fire Chief & Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC), under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), will be primarily responsible for leading, directing, and overseeing the overall administration of the Fire & Emergency Services Department in accordance with the objectives, policies and plans approved by the CAO and Council.

This role is also responsible for Fire & Emergency Services operations, including administration, financial management, policy development, operations procedures, fire suppression, fire investigation, fire prevention, public education, public relations, training, community emergency planning and ensuring compliance with the Ontario Fire Code, Municipal by-laws and Provincial and Federal Legislation.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Degree in Business, Public Administration, Fire Administration or related field.
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in fire services or a related field.
  • Experience in a leadership role is required.
  • Certification as a Fire Officer IV, NFPA 1021 or equivalent (or ability to acquire within 12 months).
  • Certification as a Fire Investigator, NFPA 1033.
  • Certification as a Fire Instructor I, NFPA 1041 (Level II would be an asset).
  • Certification as a Fire Inspector II, NFPA 1031 would be an asset.
  • Certification as a Fire and Life Safety Educator II, NFPA 1035 would be an asset.
  • Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC) designation and IMS 200 (or ability to acquire in 12 months).
  • Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification.
  • Experience in fire protection and/or emergency response services.
  • Have a good understanding of modern fire service principles and practices and an excellent working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Ability to provide strong leadership and the flexibility to operate outside normal working hours.
  • Experience with emergency management planning.
  • Valid G license required; DZ endorsement an asset but not required.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and the Ontario Fire Code (OFC).
