(2019 Salary Range $97,407 to $113,952)

Located on the scenic Bruce Peninsula, abutting the shores of both Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, the Town of South Bruce Peninsula is home to the beauty of the Niagara Escarpment, stunning sandy beaches, some of the best parts of the Bruce Trail, and a variety of recreational activities including boating, fishing, swimming, hiking, snowmobiling, and skiing.

The Town of South Bruce Peninsula is seeking candidates with a post-secondary education in a related field (Business or Public Administration, Emergency Services Management, etc.) or related experience, a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a senior officer role, preferably a Chief or Deputy, in a volunteer or composite fire department and minimum ten (10) years of progressive responsibility and experience in Fire Services and Emergency Response administration.  Candidates should have strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience solving complex and sensitive issues.

The Director of Emergency Services is responsible to Council for the leadership and operation of the municipal fire department in accordance to the Ontario Fire Protection and Prevention Act, specifically in the areas of fire prevention, fire suppression, rescue, medical response, training, administration, apparatus, equipment and communications. As the senior officer in the fire department, the role of the Director of Emergency Services is mainly administrative in nature, involving responsibility for the planning, coordinating, operating and efficiency of the department including but not limited to Community Emergency Management Coordinator, municipal crossing guard program, and Town Health and Safety program.

The ideal candidate will possess strong motivational and administrative skills, will be highly organized and will possess excellent communication and leadership skills.

Candidates must also possess a valid Class DZ driver’s license.  The successful applicant will be required to provide a clear criminal record check and clear driving abstract.
