The Town of Amherstburg is currently recruiting for a Deputy Fire Chief. 
Job Summary 
Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief is responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating and directing of all fire suppression operations.  The Deputy Fire Chief oversees full time and volunteer paid on-call firefighters as well as training programs, fire related emergency services operations and support programs for the Town of Amherstburg.   
In the absence of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief will be required to assume the duties of the Fire Chief and may be required to act as the Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC). The Deputy Chief must also be on call for emergency situations 24 hours a day, carry a pager and cell phone for after hour and immediate response and may take command of emergency scenes. 
Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants are required to have completed an undergraduate degree in Fire Services Management with designation as a Community Emergency Management Coordinator (CEMC), and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in firefighting operations as an officer of a fire department.
The successful candidate will have experience in emergency planning, scheduling, policy development, supervising and training staff, as well as budget development.  In addition, working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Fire Code, Fire Protection and Prevention Act, Ontario Building Code, and related municipal by-laws, legislation and standards is required.  Effective management, inter-personal skills, and excellent communication skills with demonstrated commitment to personal and staff development would round out the ideal candidate.

The salary range for this full time, non-union position is in accordance with the Town’s Salary Grid (under review).
