The Deputy Fire Chief is an integral member of the fire administration team responsible for providing exceptional fire protection service to our community.

Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief leads a progressive career fire department consisting of 134 dedicated members operating from 4 fire stations through the following 7 divisions; Administration, Fire Prevention, Suppression, Professional Qualifications & Standards, Communications, Fleet & Facilities, and Emergency Management. This position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Fire Prevention, Communications and Emergency Management divisions ensuring positive labour and community relations while ensuring efficient service delivery. The Deputy Chief is responsible for development and administration of both operating and capital budgets along with maintaining legislative compliance.  The Deputy Fire Chief participates in an on-call rotation and acts as the Fire Chief when required.

Candidates will possess a degree or diploma in business/public administration (or related discipline) or have the equivalent combination of significant demonstrated experience along with completion of recognized fire service specific educational requirements.

Preferred candidates are both strategic and critical thinkers with demonstrated leadership, managerial and change management skills.  Candidates must be community minded individuals with significant knowledge and experience in Fire Prevention, Codes and Standards Enforcement, Communications and Emergency Management.  Applicants must be people oriented and possess demonstrated knowledge and skills in labour relations within a unionized municipal fire service environment. Successful candidates have highly developed risk management and decision making skills along with excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.

SALARY RANGE: $146,702 per annum (based on 35 hour a week) plus benefits
