Deputy Fire Chief

The City of Dryden, Ontario is located approximately equal distance between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg on the Trans Canada Highway.  The City of Dryden Fire Department employees five (5) full time staff members and approximately forty (40) volunteer fire fighters providing fire protection and emergency response for the municipality.
 
Reporting to the Fire Chief, the successful candidate will be the second ranking officer in the Fire Service and will be involved in the organization and coordination of all areas of the Dryden Fire Service; fulfilling the Incident Command function during emergency response at incident scenes; overseeing the maintenance of the facilities, apparatus, equipment and providing oversight and direction to the fire prevention, training and health & safety programs and staff. The Deputy Fire Chief also be the alternate Community Emergency Management Coordinator and will assist in the roles of fire preventions, education and community emergency management programs as required and assumes responsibilities to carry out all powers and perform all duties of the Fire Chief in his/her absence.
 
Desired qualifications include:
  • A minimum 5 years progressive experience in fire and rescue services – an acceptable combination of education, training and experience suitable to fulfill the responsibilities of the position;
  • Ontario Fire College certification and knowledge in all areas of fire services including fire prevention, public education, investigations, code enforcement, communications, mechanical, fire suppression and emergency response;
  • Community Emergency Management Coordinator designation or ability to obtain;
  • Must provide strong leadership in emergency situations and the flexibility to operate outside normal working hours;
  • Demonstrated strong administrative skills; development and management of capital and operating budgets; departmental reporting; supervisory experience
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral including ability to author comprehensive reports and deliver presentations
  • Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Applications and social media platforms;   
  • Clean background check (at the applicant’s expense) prior to start date; and,
  • Clean driver’s abstract and must have and maintain a valid Class ‘DZ’ driver’s license and First Aid/CPR Certification.
