The Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC) 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM) is a three-day professional development event for fire service leaders that provides a perfect forum for members to be engaged and involved in their association.

Wednesday, November 18, 2020 - We host OAFC Committees where important information and issues are discussed.  You can learn more about our committees by visiting https://www.oafc.on.ca/committees.  In the afternoon, we host the OAFC Fire Service Roundtables, sponsored by Humber College.  Operational, planning, and management professionals from fire departments across Ontario come together in a roundtable format to discuss current and emerging issues in the fire service. This interactive forum allows participants to discuss local and provincial challenges they face, as well as highlight best practices, and lessons learned, with other like-minded fire departments. Immediately following the Roundtables is a reception hosted by Humber College.

Thursday, November 19, 2020 - Day one of the AGM.  Attendees can take advantage of educational opportunities with their peers, which includes keynote speakers and timely educational sessions that discuss important issues in the fire service. In the afternoon, the OAFC will host the annual general meeting, whereby members will hear important provincial updates from the Board of Directors and partake in important association business. During the day, OAFC association partners will also join us, who will have company representatives present for you to network with.

Friday, November 20, 2020 - Day two of the AGM.  On day two, the OAFC will be hosting keynote speakers and education session and any additional business meeting information will also be completed at the end of the educational component on Friday.

OAFC 2020 Annual General Meeting - Fire Service Roundtables
November 18, 2020, Hilton, Niagara Falls

Operational planning and management professionals from fire departments across Ontario are invited to come together to discuss current and emerging issues within the fire service. Designed after the Metro Fire Planners Conference, this interactive forum has been formatted for participants to share leading practices, seek ideas on how to mitigate challenges they are facing, and offer innovative ideas and solutions that they have found successful. Participants share local and provincial challenges, as well as highlight best practices and lessons learned with other like-minded fire services.

To ensure that the discussion reviews topics important to our members, participants are required to forward topics of interest to the OAFC in advance of the roundtable, which builds an intuitive, thought-provoking agenda.

Past roundtable attendees have said:

“The facilitators did their job. They allowed members to talk opening about the pre-identified issues. This allowed me to learn lots and come away with a bunch of ideas.”

“The topics for discussion were applicable to my department. The discussions were informative and provided great discussion and solutions to common problems a lot of us face.  The OAFC did a fantastic job of facilitating the discussion and providing insight to the group on how to approach some of the challenges.”

“This was the first time I was able to attend, and it was very informative for me and my department. It is an excellent opportunity to learn from others experiences.”

“The openness and the willingness of everyone to add something was great.  It’s beneficial to sit in a room of chiefs with similarly structured departments to discuss topics that relate to the majority in the room.”

Past Roundtable sessions have covered issues related to:

  • Performance measurement and data analysis;
  • Organizational planning;
  • Staffing and deployment models;
  • Health and safety;
  • Recruitment;
  • Education and training;
  • Shared services and regionalization;
  • Labour relations issues.

The OAFC hosts TWO concurrent roundtable sessions.

  • OAFC Fire Service Roundtable URBAN SESSION; and
  • OAFC Fire Service Roundtable RURAL-SUBURBAN SESSION
