Updated: Home destroyed in early-morning fire in Ottawa's rural south end
Ottawa Citizen
Ottawa Fire Services answered 911 calls from neighbours reporting heavy smoke and flames coming from a single-family home on Lockhead Road East near Kars in Ottawa’s rural south end Sunday morning.
After crews arrived at about 4:50 a.m., they knocked down the fire and declared it under control by 5:35 a.m.
In a media release Sunday afternoon, fire officials estimated the loss at $490,000. They said the occupant had left the house around midnight when the power went off to go to another residence with heat.
The house was fully collapsed, making it impossible for a fire investigator to conduct a full investigation and determine a cause.

The fire service added that between 6 p.m Saturday. and 1 a.m. Sunday, the communications division had taken approximately 75 calls to 911 and dispatched over 55 calls.

Some of these calls involved hydro wires arcing, hydro wires down, the odour of smoke inside buildings, public assistance requests, both commercial and residential alarms, and the working fire.
