A family member is appealing to the community for assistance on behalf of a single mother and her children who lost everything in a fire in Redbridge, Thursday.

The occupants, Natalie Holmes and her sons were all away from the home as it burned. Tragically, their family dog Yoshi and other pets were inside and perished in the blaze.

The Phelps Volunteer Fire Department and North Bay Fire and Emergency Services both responded to the basement fire. Despite the best efforts of the crews, the home is uninhabitable due to the damages.

Cindy Cox shares the family members have lost everything, including all of their physical possessions, clothes, Christmas gifts, and sentimental items.

Natalie is a single mother who cares for six-year-old Owen, who has special needs and Skyler, 14. The family is in need of emergency shelter, a new home to rent for Natalie and her children, as well as clothing for each of them.

  • Owen is a size 6 in shirts and a size 5 in pants
  • Skyler is a size medium in pants and XXL in shirts - he prefers hoodies/sweaters/track pants
  • Natalie is a 3XL in women's clothing

Due to her agreement to rent the home from her family, Natalie does not have renters insurance to cover their possessions. The homeowner's coverage will not extend to Natalie and her boys.

Cox says supporters will gratefully accept donations of clothing or money at Hairworks, located at 1867 O'Brien St. The shop is along the side of the building (same mall as Ivan's restaurant).

She adds, all donations are appreciated and can be made through GoFundMe, by cheque made payable to "Natalie Holmes" or via EMT (please contact Hairworks for the email address).

All donations will go directly towards helping this family during an incredibly difficult situation, Cox assures.

"We cannot begin to thank you enough for any donations you can provide."
