Police have identified one of the victims after two fatal house fires in the Owen Sound area over the weekend each resulted in the death of a person.

Patricia Waters, 74, of Georgian Bluffs was pronounced dead at the scene of a fire that occurred at a home on Girl Guide Road early Saturday morning.

Grey Bruce OPP, Grey County EMS, and the Inter Township Fire Department responded to the fire in the Township of Georgian Bluffs west of Owen Sound at about 5 a.m. on Saturday.

One person was removed from the residence and pronounced deceased at the scene, police said in a release over the weekend. Another resident along with two police officers attended a local hospital and were treated for smoke inhalation, police said.

The Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal, which investigates all fatal fires in the province, was called in by the ITFD. The OPP Forensic Identification Services in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario, were also involved in the investigation.

In a news release from Grey Bruce OPP on Monday it said the scene had been released and the investigation was ongoing.

A second fire just east of Rockford in the Municipality of Meaford on Saturday evening claimed the life of another person.

The person was removed from that residence and pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of that person has not yet been released.

The ITFD and Chatsworth Fire Department fought that fire, which had fully engulfed the home when firefighters arrived, it said in a release from the OPP.

Firefighters were notified of the structure fire on the 10 th Concession at about 10:50 p.m., along with police and Grey County paramedics.

The OPP Forensic Identification Services, in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the fire marshal’s office were all investigating that blaze, the OPP said.
