One dead in Uxbridge house fire

One dead in Uxbridge house fire.  Ontario Fire Marshal continues to investigate.  UXBRIDGE -- One person is dead following a house fire on Concession Road 3 in Uxbridge.

Fire prevention officer Ken Maynard confirmed Tuesday morning that one person died, but could say little else.

“I can confirm this morning that there was a fire death,” Mr. Maynard said. “We aren’t releasing anything more about who it is at this time.”

Uxbridge fire crews were called to the home at 3180 Concession 3, just north of Secord Road, around 10:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16 for the report of a large structure fire. When they arrived, crews from Stouffville were already on site battling the blaze, which had engulfed the house.

Mr. Maynard says the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office arrived around midnight and took over the investigation. Officials spent the day at the home on Monday and remained there as of Tuesday morning.

Mr. Maynard added that the body will be sent for an autopsy to confirm cause of death.

Mr. Maynard could not confirm if there were any other occupants in the home at the time of the fire due to the ongoing investigation.

“We can’t release any more information until the OFM is finished their investigation,” Capt. Maynard says.
