A Brampton district fire chief is in hospital after a violent crash in Brampton early Tuesday.

The two-vehicle collision occurred just after 3:30 a.m. in the area of Queen Street West and McLaughlin Road South.

Peel Regional Police say a district fire chief with Brampton Fire and Emergency Services, who was driving in a Ford Explorer fire service vehicle, was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the other car didn’t go to hospital and was treated on scene by Peel Region Paramedics.

One of the vehicles crashed into a light standard, knocking it down.

The force’s Major Collision Bureau is investigating.

Brampton Fire Chief Bill Boyes said the firefighter is recovering.

“He is still in hospital with non life threatening injuries and our thoughts are with him and his family today,” he tweeted.
