'Heavy black smoke' at Oshawa house fire Sunday morning

OSHAWA — One person sustained minor burns in a house fire in Oshawa early Sunday morning.

Oshawa firefighters were called to a house on Muriel Avenue at 6:40 a.m. on May 31.

Deputy fire chief Stephen Barkwell says crews encountered “heavy black smoke” when they arrived.

All occupants of the house got out safely before firefighters got there. One person was sent to hospital with minor burns.

Barkwell says the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

This is the second house fire in Oshawa in the last 48 hours.

Police and the Ontario Fire Marshals Office are investigating after a man’s body was found at the scene of a house fire on Pearson Street on Friday morning.
