Fire Chief Dan Herback Announces Retirement
News Release

The City of Pembroke's Fire Chief Dan Herback has announced his decision to retire effective April 30, 2021.

"I want to sincerely thank Chief Herback for his dedication and commitment to the residents of Pembroke. He has been an excellent leader and has ensured that the Pembroke Fire Department is the best it can be," shared Mayor Mike LeMay.

Chief Herback initially began with Pembroke as a volunteer firefighter in 1990 and was hired fulltime at the level of Class 4 in 1992. He worked his way up through the ranks, eventually achieving the position of Fire Chief, a rank he has held with distinction in our city since 2008.

Chief Herback remarked, "After careful consideration regarding retirement and many discussions with my family, we agree it is the perfect time. We are very excited to move forward to the next part of our life's journey.

Although I have immensely enjoyed my career with The City of Pembroke and my responsibilities within the department and the community, I feel that the Pembroke Fire Department is now in a great position to comfortably welcome new leadership."

The recruitment process to fill the Fire Chief position has been initiated with the goal to have the replacement in place prior to Chief Herback's departure.

The City of Pembroke would like to take this opportunity to show our appreciation for Chief Herback's brave, dedicated, and wholehearted service to this city for over three decades and wish him well in retirement.
