Niagara Falls Fire Department is getting a funding boost from Enbridge Gas to purchase firefighting training materials through the utility’s Safe Community Project Assist program.

The program, supported by the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council, supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in communities where Enbridge operates.

Fire Chief Jo Zambito said the donation will be used to assist the department with additional tools required to train for a variety of emergencies.

“Programs such as Safe Community Project Assist strengthen relationships with our stakeholders and exemplifies our continued partnership with Enbridge, while continuing to achieve the highest level of customer service,” he said.

The funding is part of $250,000 donation that will be shared among 50 fire departments in Ontario.

Since its launch in 2012, the program has provided 244 grants to Ontario fire departments for additional firefighter training.
