Cornwall hires deputy fire chief

CORNWALL – Cornwall has hired a new deputy fire chief.

Matthew Stephenson comes to the city from southwestern Ontario where he was a deputy district chief with the Strathroy-Caradoc Fire Department, west of London. He was also the director of planning, building and waste services for the municipality.

Fire Chief Jeff Weber made the announcement today (Tuesday).

“Alongside several certificates, Stephenson has a Bachelor’s Degree in Justice & Public Safety with the University of Guelph-Humber and a Diploma in Public Administration with the University of Western Ontario,” the corporation noted in the announcement.

Stephenson says there is a “lot of opportunity here” in Cornwall and is excited about the new position.

Stephenson replaces Weber, who was promoted to the chief’s position in September 2020 after Pierre Voisine left to take a chief’s job in Clarence-Rockland.
