Coffee with a firefighter on tap for Fire Prevention Week
Ottawa Citizen

City firefighters are meeting up with residents for coffee, heading to hardware stores with tips and teaching building owners how to meet code in events marking Fire Prevention Week.

This year’s theme is “Look. Listen. Learn. Be aware. Fire can happen anywhere.”

First up Friday is coffee with a firefighter (and it includes a free cup of joe) to talk safety concerns or ask any questions. It’s from 10 a.m. to noon at McDonald’s locations at College Square, Billings Bridge, South Keys, Orléans and Stittsville.

On Saturday, check out fire prevention displays at Home Depot locations on Baseline Road, Frank Nighbor Place, Strandherd Drive, Bank Street, Tenth Line Road and Cyrville Road.

Building owners and managers, contractors and consultants are invited to a seminar on meeting and maintaining fire code compliance, keeping proper records and reducing false alarms at 1 p.m. on Oct. 16 at 101 Centrepointe Drive. Register by sending an email to gwen.lewis@ottawa.ca.

Finally, on Oct. 20, Ottawa Fire Services teams up with the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs for fire prevention displays at area Lowe’s locations on Hazeldean Road, West Hunt Club Road, 1880 Innes Road in Gloucester and 3828 Innes Road in Orléans.
