Cambridge Appoints New Deputy Fire Chief for Cambridge Fire Department

Cambridge Appoints New Deputy Fire Chief for Cambridge Fire Department - Cambridge - The City of Cambridge announced Walter MacNeil as the new Deputy Fire Chief for the Cambridge Fire Department (CFD). MacNeil will officially take over the position on September 2, 2014. MacNeil joined the Cambridge Fire Department as a firefighter in 1985. He held a number of progressive roles during his time with the CFD, some of which include Captain Firefighter in 1996 and most recently Platoon Chief in 2007.

In 1994, after 21 years of service, MacNeil retired from his position as the Regimental Sergeant Major for the Royal Highland Fusiliers. In addition, he has also completed two tours of duty in the Middle East for the United Nations.

MacNeil is currently assisting the local Cambridge Self-Help Food Bank with their “Back Pack for Book Worms” program. Together with the committee, MacNeil collects donations of school supplies to provide hundreds of local children with a backpack filled with grade specific supplies.

Cambridge Mayor Craig adds, “Walter is a true community leader and we’re pleased to see him take on this new role as Deputy. We wish him all the best as he transitions into his new role.”

“Working for the Cambridge Fire Department has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I am very excited and appreciative of the opportunity, and look forward to the new challenge. Public education and fire prevention are very important initiatives that drive the fire service forward but there will always be a need for “boots on the ground” through fire suppression. I look forward to working together with my CFD team, to provide top-notch service to the residents of this great City” remarks newly announced Deputy MacNeil.

Cambridge Fire Chief Neil Main welcomed Deputy MacNeil into his new role and explains “he has proven himself to be a strong and well-respected leader. He brings with him a wealth of experience, innovative ideas and I am confident that he will excel in this new role." MacNeil starts in his new role September 2, 2014”.
