An inspirational leader of a key service in Belleville is leaving to take over the same organization in the Limestone City.
Belleville Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Services Monique Belair has confirmed to our newsroom that she is leaving to take over as Fire Chief in the City of Kingston.
Belair took over the post in Belleville in June of 2021 (previously serving as Deputy Fire Chief in Oakville), leading the city through events like the industrial materials fire and partial evacuation in the east end of the city back in October.
She also established a local Chapter of Camp Molly, which inspires teenage girls to consider a career in Fire and Emergency Services.
Belair's last day in Belleville will reportedly be April 11th.
