$5,000 donation for Township of Perry fire department

The Township of Perry fire department received a $5,000 donation toward training materials from Enbridge Gas on Nov. 18, 2021.

It is part of the Safe Community Project Assist, which supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in communities where Enbridge operates.

The 2021 donation of $250,000 will be shared by 50 Ontario fire departments including the Perry Township Fire Hall.

In a press release issued on Nov. 22, Enbridge Gas’s director of northern region operations said: “We’re proud to support Ontario firefighters who share our commitment to keeping our communities safe.”

The grant has assisted in the purchasing of educational manuals to enhance life saving techniques and, according to Perry’s fire chief Dan Marshall, complements the current library at the fire hall.

“Some of the books will be used in our recruit classes to train new firefighters,” said Marshall. “This will help keep our department well-educated and better able to serve the community now and into the future.”

The Perry Fire Department is a volunteer-based department and consists of a fire chief, deputy fire chief, fire prevention officer, 13 firefighters and three junior firefighters.

Sid Martin is new to the fire department and said the donation by Enbridge is awesome.

“It’s great for somebody like me who is trying to go full time,” said Martin. “This helps out a lot.”
