A fire destroyed three feed bays at a Bayham area dairy farm, causing an estimated $425,000 in damages.

On Friday, Dec. 11, Bayham Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on 53777 Talbot Line in Eden at 12:25 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters noticed flames coming from the end two compartments of a feeding supply structure.

Mutual aid assistance was requested from Tillsonburg and Malahide fire departments. About 30 firefighters were on scene. The fire was brought under control quickly, said Bayham Fire Chief Harry Baranik. There were no injuries to occupants, firefighters or livestock.

The fire is not considered suspicious. A mechanical issue in the feed mixer is believed to be the cause of the fire, said Chief Baranik.

The feed mixer was completely destroyed. Damage to the structure was limited to the three feed bays. Losses are estimated at $425,000 for the feed mixer, structure and feed. Chief Baranik said the owner is insured.
