Toronto Fire Services say two people have died after house fire in Toronto’s Parkdale neighbourhood early Tuesday.

Officials said they were called to a detached three-storey home on Wilson Park Road, just south of Queen Street West, at around 3:25 a.m.

Toronto Fire District Chief Steven Wilson told reporters a second victim was found deceased in the home hours after a woman was initially pulled from the home during search and rescue efforts. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilson did not reveal the age or gender of the second resident.

Fire officials said one person managed to escape the fire and was treated by paramedics and is in stable condition.

Only three people lived in the home, Wilson said.

Wilson added the investigation is still underway to determine if there were working smoke alarms. He also said the house is not structurally sound due to the fire.

“On behalf of Toronto Fire, I extend my deepest condolences to family, friends and all those impacted by this morning’s fatal fire on Wilson Park Road,” Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg said.

“The investigation into the origin, cause and circumstances of this tragic fire will commence once safe to do so.”
