Statement from Deputy Chief Matt Pegg, President, OAFC: Ontario Building Code in Regards to Mid-Rise Construction

STATEMENT FROM MATT PEGG, PRESIDENT
ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS

Ajax – Recently, industry leaders called on the provincial government to make changes to the Ontario Building Code in regards to mid-rise construction.

As Champions of Public Safety, the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC) has two areas of concern that constitute our interest in this issue: resident safety and firefighter safety.

The OAFC fully supports the commissioning of a comprehensive and inclusive technical process to identify all the fire safety issues that need to be addressed and to create achievable, appropriate solutions to those challenges.

The OAFC will be pleased to work with the various stakeholders on the development of the required code amendments and solutions to the fire safety concerns that must be addressed.
