The Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery

PURPOSE
The Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery was created to recognize the often hazardous nature of the work of our firefighting forces. The recipients of this medal are men and women of Ontario’s firefighting services, recognized for individual acts of superlative courage and bravery.

WHO CAN NOMINATE?
Nominations can be received from members of the Ontario Firefighting Services or from Ontario residents. Each nomination must be endorsed by the Fire Chief. The Chief Administrative Officer or the Clerk of the Municipality must endorse the nomination of a Fire Chief.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Members of Ontario Firefighting Services. The medal recognizes individual acts of superlative bravery and courage that have occurred within the last 24 months. Under special circumstances, the Advisory Council will consider nominations for actions that have occurred beyond 24 months. A letter explaining the delay for submitting the nomination is required. The medal may be awarded posthumously.

HOW ARE THE MEDAL RECIPIENTS SELECTED?
The medal recipients are selected by an independent Advisory Council, whose members are appointed by the Premier.
 
WHEN WILL THE MEDALS BE PRESENTED?
The Lieutenant Governor of Ontario invests the recipients at a provincial ceremony typically held in November. The medal recipients and their chiefs will be notified by phone in advance of the investiture.
 

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE?
Nominations can be sent to the following address no later than the deadline specified in the attached letter and as posted on the website listed below.
