Deputy Fire Chief/Training Officer

The Corporation of the Township of North Kawartha Emergency Services Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Deputy Fire Chief/Training Officer. Reporting to the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief/Training Officer will provide management and supervision of the training, operations, and Apparatus and equipment divisions within the Township of North Kawartha Emergency Services. Scheduling and supervising firefighters and officers in the areas of training, performance management, and records management. In the absence of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief/Training Officer may assume overall responsibilities of the Department.

Preference will be given to candidates who have the following experience:
 
  • Possess Training Officer ( minimum NFPA 1041 I-II) and /or Company Officer ( minimum NFPA 1021 I-II)
  • Thorough and demonstrated knowledge of fire protection principles and practices, including fire suppression, fire behavior, incident management, rescue operations, emergency mitigation, training delivery, building construction, and apparatus and equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Experience in managing emergency scenes and assessing individual and organizational effectiveness in both emergency and non-emergency activities.
  • Hold a valid DZ driver’s license.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in a senior supervisory position within the Fire Service.
  • Training delivery experience in the Fire Service.
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to author comprehensive reports and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of emergency management programs and practices and/or experience as a Community Emergency Management Co.ordinator is considered an asset
Flexible work schedule as working evenings and weekends is a requirement. Normal hours of work are 40 hours per week, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, and weekends and evenings as required. Must be willing to carry a pager and be able to respond after normal working hours for emergency calls. Manual labor including heavy lifting and strenuous activities will be involved.

Compensation for this position will commensurate with education and experience.

2017 Salary range is $ 61,484.00 to $ 73,415.00
