FSMC 010 - Health & Safety

All pertinent Provincial legislation will be outlined. Participants will be provided with a comprehensive overview of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Section 21 provisions. The employer’s responsibilities under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and responsibilities under the Act will be highlighted including accommodation and modified work programs. Trends and best practices in Occupational Health and Safety and case law will be studied. 

This course is part of the Humber College Fire Service Executive Management Certificate program. Participants will receive one(1) credit towards their certificate.

The cost for this course is $365 plus HST.  A minimum of 12 participants must be registered in order for the course to proceed.


Hugh Doherty, is a Fire Protection Professional who has progressed from a Firefighter with the City of Toronto to his current position of Acting District Chief, a position he has held since June 2013. Hugh has held various positions such as Executive Officer of the Toronto Professional Firefighters Association, Chair of the Human Relations Committee of the Ontario Professional Firefighters Association. More recently he has been the  WSIB Certified Health and Safety Representative, as well as the Labour Co-Chair for the City of Toronto. Hugh is a Peer Support Instructor and additionally serves as a Director for the Centre of Excellence in Washington DC. In his tenure as a fire fighter, Hugh has received various awards including the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery, Federal Fire Services Exemplary Service Medal, Provincial Fire Services Long Service Medal, Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, and City of Toronto Commendations.
