All pertinent Provincial legislation will be outlined. Participants will be provided with a comprehensive overview of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Section 21 provisions. The employer’s responsibilities under the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board and responsibilities under the Act will be highlighted. Trends and best practices in Occupational Health and Safety and case law will be studied.

Collective bargaining in the essential services sector can often be challenging.
 
Without the risks to strike or lock out, the parties find it all too easy to “give up”, sending the process to an expensive arbitration process. Moving away from a traditional and adversarial approach towards a more collaborative and Interest Focused approach to negotiation is seen as the new way forward. This program will give the participants the tools to effectively negotiate at the bargaining table. Role playing will be utilized to teach hands-on skills.

This course will provide an up-to-date introduction to emerging and innovative fire service technology.
 
The use of GIS technology, mobile data systems, digital technology, Computer Aided Dispatch and the latest in fire research and development will be highlighted. This course will provide an overview of response time guidelines, for example: NFPA 1710 and OFM Integrated Risk Model.  The participants will be introduced to the benefits of utilizing state of the art GIS technology to maximize response time efficiency.
