St. Catharines firefighters are paying a kind gesture forward.

As a thank you for their service, Tim Hortons gave gift cards to first responders working on Canada Day Saturday, July 1, including 150 $10 gift cards to St. Catharines firefighters. In turn, the firefighters donated the gift cards to Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.

“We were all touched by such a kind gesture,” said Fire Chief Dave Wood, who was on hand with the firefighters and Barry Fader, local Tim Hortons franchise owner, to present the gift cards to Betty-Lou Souter, CEO of Community Care. “We are so fortunate to be part of such a wonderful community. Everyone was on board when it was suggested we give these back to the community we proudly serve.”

Community Care offers support services helping residents in St. Catharines and Thorold meet their basic needs. Programs range from food and shelter to emergency services and support that lead to the independence clients strive to achieve.

“This is another example of the compassionate city we live in,” said Souter. “Thanks to the St. Catharines firefighters, we have these gift cards to give out to the residents we serve. It’s kindness like this that helps us make a difference in our community.”
