The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal (OFM) has been called to investigate after a wood manufacturing plant caught flames in Shelburne.

Early Thursday evening (Aug. 10), firefighters were called to respond to a large working fire at the IK World Trading Company located on Main Street West in Shelburne.

One of the main production buildings on the property was engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived on scene.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time. Nobody was seriously injured in the blaze, but Shelburne police note two people, including one firefighter, were treated by Dufferin EMS on the scene.

It's too early to estimate how much damage has been caused by the large fire. However, police project the loss will be "significant."

Due to the potential amount of damage to the plant, Lemaich said OFM officials have been called to investigate.

Shelburne police has also launched an investigation, which will continue jointly with the Shelburne fire department and OFM once the fire has been fully brought under control.

Firefighters from five fire departments, including Shelburne, Grand Valley, Dundalk, Orangeville and Mulmur-Melancthon were called in to help extinguish the blaze.

As of 6:30 a.m. on Friday, Lemaich reported firefighters were still in "defensive suppression mode," as there were still some hot spots that needed to be put out.

Anyone with any information about the case is urged to contact Shelburne police at 519-925-3312, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip online at crimestopperssdm.com.
